UMAG University Center Cabo de Hornos

The University of Magallanes has been present in Puerto Williams, the southernmost city in the world, since 2002. Since then, a group of researchers has developed terrestrial and marine ecological research, forming a transdisciplinary team that integrates science, philosophy, and art. To date, our team has been key in the creation of protected areas: the Cabo de Hornos Biosphere Reserve and the Diego Ramírez Islands-Drake Passage Marine Park. Currently, the Cabo de Hornos University Center (CU Cabo de Hornos) is developing a Basal Funding Center with ANID, known as CHIC, which unites seven universities and the CIEP under the umbrella of UMAG. In 2023, CU Cabo de Hornos will launch the Higher-Level Technician program in Biocultural Conservation Tourism, the first program offered from Puerto Williams at the Cabo de Hornos Subantarctic Center.
